  • After CMM profiling the penetration profile, depth and wear volume can be determined from the form determined through data obtained from the CAD drawing.
  • The method is preferable to measurement of the overall volume of the part using immersion techniques for innaccuracies can be caused by water absorption in addition to the technique only giving an overall wear volume whereas th Cmm technique can accurately depict where the actual wear is taking place.
  • This technique can also be used on new components as part of the development process.
